Steven P. MacGilvray

Steven P. MacGilvray is an Associate Attorney at Coolidge Law Firm, PLLC focusing primarily on Criminal Defense.  Mr. MacGilvray graduated from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach.

Prior to joining Coolidge Law Firm, PLLC, Mr. MacGilvray was an Assistant District Attorney for the State of North Carolina. During his time as a prosecutor, Steve acquired extensive trial experience and primarily handled drug offenses, child abuse, traffic infractions, and domestic violence cases. After deciding to devote his career to helping people who face serious legal issues, Mr. MacGilvray brings all of the skills he learned as a prosecutor to the Coolidge Law team. By being trained in the same tactics and procedures that the State Prosecutors use on a daily basis to convict people, Mr. MacGilvray finds that his prosecutorial training gives him an advantage that lets him better represent his clients in their cases in fighting against such convictions.

During law school, Steve developed a passion for criminal defense by completing numerous internships at Public Defender’s offices in North Carolina and Virginia.  While in law school, he tailored his course selections to reflect his interest in criminal law: Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure are just a few examples.

As part of Coolidge Law Firm, Steve brings a detailed understanding of the complexities of criminal law. His service at Coolidge Law Firm has shown to prove invaluable to our clients during some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Mr. MacGilvray is an avid firearms enthusiast who participates in target shooting competitions. He is a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights and responsible firearms ownership, and brings that passion to Coolidge Law Firm.  As an attorney, Steve helps clients navigate the ever changing world of firearms regulations and helps ensure this his clients do not face criminal charges for simply exercising their constitutional right to bear arms.

In his spare time, Mr. MacGilvray enjoys scuba diving, ballroom dancing, fencing, target shooting, and cooking.

Steve is admitted to practice in all North Carolina State Courts as well as the Federal District Court in the Eastern District of North Carolina, United States Immigration Courts, and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
